So, a couple of days ago, Mom and I got Coraline.

I loved it. The scenery, the animation, all of it.

At first, I was kind of worried - mainly because of hearing there would be another character around Coraline's age in the movie. This was because I thought that, when it came to the final showdown with the Other Mother (not the other mother's hand, as creepy as it was, it was no where near as threatening as the Mother herself) it would be Coraline and Wybie that would defeat her, and I felt that, if that happened, it'd take away some of the awesomeness of the character of Coraline.

I should not have been worried.

I actually ended up liking Wybie and Other Wybie quite a bit. Wybie and Coraline both felt like real kids, Wybie as the sort of geeky-daredevil kid on the block that does crazy stuff but is still pretty damn cool, Coraline as a kid going through a tough time in her life and looking for something better, but realizing that what she found wasn't better.

Plus, the scene with the Other Mother's hand, and Wybie coming in just the nick of time. Big Damn Hero and a Crowning Moment of Awesome. And then Coraline saving Wybie, and the both of them pushing the lid to the well back - that was good.

The whole other world - how it started to slowly get worse, and then the entire degeneration of the Other Father, and him apologizing and saying "Mother made me, don't want to hurt you" while going after Coraline, and him giving her one of the ghost children's eyes.

And then the Other Mother, how friggin' creepy she was - the first reveal, then her spider legs, and then her face looking like it was shattering, and what she did to the Other Wybie, oh god.

The Other Mr. Bobinsky, saying "Not even that... anymore." very softly, almost sadly.

It was a very, very good movie. I plan on watching the Deleted scenes later on.

I took Dresden for a walk, and on the way home came across an old man wearing a 'navy' hat. We talked a little, and when I found that he was in WW2, I gave him a hug. I have the utmost respect for soliders that served in WW2. He told me that he was 17 when he enlisted, which is my age.

Also, I'm actually pretty proud of this one show I watch every so often, The Closer.

Spoilers for the Closer )
